How Levels Work in Brighter Shores

First, it’s important to know that the entire gameplay of Brighter Shores is based on its profession or “skills” system. Currently, during the game’s early access phase, there are 18 professions available across Episodes 1 to 4. The level of each profession increases as you perform tasks related to that activity.

Once you reach level 20 in any profession, you’ll unlock the Knowledge Points system. This system is crucial, and we recommend unlocking it as soon as possible.

Knowledge Points allow players to, after performing a certain number of actions in any profession, use their points in one of the three following options:

  • Unlock passive activities, where you will earn experience in the desired profession and silver passively (even when your game is closed).
  • Receive experience (25% of the experience needed for the next level if your level is below 200, or 6.25% of the experience if your level is 200 or higher).
  • Exchange for coins. At least for now, this is the least attractive option among the three available.

But don’t worry—your progress in the game will not be lost when the game officially launches!

And What About the Episodes? How Do They Work?

Brighter Shores is divided into a system of Episodes. You start in Episode 1, and as you complete the main questline, you unlock access to the following episodes.

Each episode introduces new professions and, consequently, new game mechanics, as well as a large new area of the map with new quests. Your progress is measured in two main ways:

  1. The individual level of your professions.
  2. Your Total Level, which is the number displayed above your character when you press the spacebar or in the professions menu (it’s the sum of the levels of all your professions).

You start at level 0 in each profession from Episode 1 and can level each one up to 500. With every new level milestone, you unlock new content within your profession.

It’s also worth noting that progression in experience is not linear. Once you reach level 20 in a skill, the experience required for subsequent levels will increase significantly. Then, upon reaching level 200, the difficulty to level up will increase again, and the experience gained through Knowledge Points will decrease as well.

Note: At levels 50, 100, 200, and 500 of each profession, you will unlock the option to purchase a new cape for that profession. These capes are purely cosmetic items with no practical effects in the game.
