Classes in Brighter Shores: Factions, Progression, and Combat
Brighter Shores features a unique class system, also referred to as factions, which can only be chosen during the Main Quest in Act 2. Once selected, this choice is permanent and cannot be changed later, requiring players to carefully consider the path they want to follow.
Class Progression and Exclusive Items
A distinctive feature of the combat system is that, starting at combat level 20, exclusive items for each class begin to appear. Once you choose your faction, the chances of monsters dropping items specific to your class increase significantly. This encourages players to specialize and seek equipment that maximizes the potential of their abilities.

- Cryoknight: Specialists in the power of ice, strong against Guardians by using ice attacks that penetrate their arboreal defenses but weak against Hammermages.
- Guardian: Masters in manipulating arboreal power, strong against Hammermages but weak against Cryoknights.
- Hammermage: Conjurers harnessing the power of storms, particularly effective against Cryoknights but weak against Guardians.
This interaction of strengths and weaknesses adds a layer of tactical depth, making it essential for players to adjust their combat strategies when facing enemies from different factions.
Progression and Identity in the Endgame
Unlike traditional RPGs, progression in Brighter Shores is slower and more deliberate. This means the true identity of each class only begins to stand out in the endgame, as players advance and unlock more complex and specialized abilities.
Drawing a parallel with other RPGs: the Cryoknight resembles a warrior, the Guardian an archer, and the Hammermage a mage. However, there are significant nuances unique to Brighter Shores’ gameplay.
Flexibility in Weapon and Element Use

A Hammermage, for instance, can choose to wield weapons with ice or arboreal damage to adapt their combat strategy against different enemies, as long as the weapons are specific to their class.
