Quest Guide – Spider’s Nest | Brighter Shores

The mission “Spider’s Nest” in Brighter Shores is a side quest introduced during Episode 2 of the game, involving the rescue of an NPC named Toblaine, who has been captured by a Titan Spider. Completing this mission not only grants you a significant amount of experience points but also unlocks the Storage Rift spell, an extremely useful feature that allows you to store items in the bank from any of the Storage Rift Markers scattered across the map.

This adds a lot of convenience, as you can deposit your items without needing to return to a central location. It’s one of the most useful quests in the entire game!

To progress in this mission, you’ll need to explore different areas of the map, face a variety of enemies, and complete several tasks that will challenge your skills. The journey involves not just battles but also solving a few puzzles. This complete guide will take you step-by-step through the “Spider’s Nest” quest in Brighter Shores, helping you free Toblaine and make the most of the rewards offered.

Preparations and Prerequisites for the Quest

First, let’s go over the essential requirements to successfully complete the quest:

Carpenter: Level 32;
Woodcutter: Level 20;
Scout: Not mandatory, but we recommend being above level 30 for the final combat. It’s possible to complete it with a lower level, though.
Potions: Not mandatory, but we also recommend carrying some potions for the final fight, including healing potions and ones that strengthen your attacks, especially if your Scout level is below 30. Also, keep in mind that the spiders you’ll face are resistant to ice, so use a weapon without this element.

Starting the Spider’s Nest Quest

To start this mission, head to the Cliffside Path area in Hopeforest (Episode 2), located on the eastern side of the map. There, you will find an NPC named Toblaine trapped in a spider web.

When you talk to him, you will receive the next task: rescuing him. On your first attempt, you’ll need to climb the cliff from the left side to try to reach Toblaine. However, as you get closer, a Titan Spider at the top of the cliff will knock you down, causing you to fall back.

After the fall, you’ll encounter another NPC named Alannor, who will explain that the only way to distract the Titan Spider is by using Tar Rats. To get these rats, you’ll need to go to a camp in Small Clearing, an area in the southern part of the map, and talk to Hamish Truefire.

You’ll find out that to obtain the Tar Rat, you’ll need to collect some rare items and bring them back to Hamish Truefire.

Collecting the Required Items

Snake Eye

Head northeast to Snakes Path or Snakes Clearing in Hopeforest, where you’ll encounter Level 8 vipers. Be prepared to fight and collect a Snake Eye by defeating them. If higher-level vipers are spawning, you can manually select the Level 8 viper in the pre-combat menu.

Golden Marrow

Visit Mr. McGrish’s Garden, located between Timberwell Road and Timberwell Green. Mr. McGrish owns a Golden Marrow, but he won’t hand it over easily. At this point, you’ll need to complete a few additional tasks to obtain your item:

Impress a Committee Member

You’ll need to convince Mr. McGrish that you’re part of the fruit and vegetable committee. To do this, find Kedwick Shalstanger at the Huntsman’s Lodge, located south of Forest Clearing, and ask for his badge.

Defeat a Spriggan for the Badge

To prove your worth, you’ll need to defeat a Spriggan, which can be found at Treeway Junction or Treeway Trail, north of Hopeforest.

After Getting the Badge

Return to Mr. McGrish’s Garden. There, near some apple trees, you’ll find a can of paint. This paint will be used to color a regular pumpkin found in the Timberwell Green fields, located south of Hopeforest (near the carpentry training area).

Once the pumpkin is painted, replace it with the Golden Marrow found in Mr. McGrish’s Garden.

Uncoated Antacid Shields:

For the final items, you’ll need to:

Obtain an Ash Log (found in Timberwell Green or purchased from the NPC Gwen).
Cut it into two Ash Planks.
With level 32 Carpentry, use a Workbench to craft them into two Uncoated Antacid Shields at the Carpenter’s Workshop (next to Timberwell Green).

After collecting all three items, return to Hamish Truefire at Small Clearing and use the items at the campfire to create the antacid-coated shields necessary to obtain the Tar Rat we’re after.

Wrapping Up This Step

After completing this stage, you’ll learn the Storage Rift Spell, which will make your life in Brighter Shores much easier from now on. You can now collect the Tar Rats from the campfire and proceed to the combat. Remember, if needed, you can always return to the campfire to get more Tar Rats.

Final Step: The Combat!

Return to Cliffside Path (the starting location of the quest) and place the Tar Rat on the Big Flat Boulder to lure the Titan Spider.

Next, click on the tree beside the spider to trap it (you’ll need Level 20 Woodcutter for this). With the spider properly restrained, climb the rock and cross to the other side.

On the way, a group of Level 35 Mini Titan Spiders will appear. Defeat them all, using potions if necessary. At this stage, if you die, you can return and continue the fight from where you left off.

Finally, after winning the fight, rescue Toblaine, completing the Spider’s Nest quest in Brighter Shores.
